We experimented with illustrations and words using an extended exposure (20-30 secs) on the Canon 5d Mk1.
We set the DSLR's mode to 'bulb' to ensure we could produce the best photographs for this style.
The aperture was set to F8 whilst we shot the photographs, leaving us with the ability to experiment in our spare time by adjusting the aperture and obtaining sharper shots.
We were allowed access to sufficient kit in the 'dark room' where, as a group, we explored the ways to express creativity using torches with colour-filters.
Vinnie provided us with some inspiration from previous classes, but what we chose to do was a combination of all our interpretations of the task.
We found the photo's where the silhouette's were taken came out the most successfully.
Here are a few examples of the light photography we produced within the hour of experimentation:
'The Angelic Demon'
'Disco Fever!'
'Use the force...'
Further to taking the photographs, I researched into other people's work through the internet and chose examples to show on my blog. Here are a few inspirational and particularly interesting ones:
Here is a link to a video produced using light drawing techniques...
I especially like this because it regularly uses shots which combine still photo's to produce a 'stuttered film' effect. The creativity is very inspirational; especially the rainbow idea! (see 02:20)
In conclusion I enjoyed the introduction into this style of photography and shall be attempting my own at home at some stage. The only photography I had done similar to this in the past was when I took photo's of car's passing in the night with a 10-second exposure, whilst on a tripod... I was quite pleased and intrigued by the results, and I'll definitely be exploring these methods in the future.
